Robert Richards and Ron Calayo are serving the community to give back to those who have given it to them. Prior to opening this restaurant, they had worked together for almost 10 years and now have a brother-like bond.

“I remember we always said one day we’ll have our own place,” Richards said. Proudly they have now fulfilled the desire that was shared between the two of them. Here at R Place Stone Grill, Richards will oversee operations and Calayo will be the head chef. Named after the two, R Place Stone Grill serves a variety of starters, salads, soups, burgers, sandwiches, seafood, stir-fry and steaks. Chef Calayo, who moved to the United States from the Philippines in 2010, is excited to bring a unique dining experience, especially with customers cooking their steaks on a 700-degree stone.

Featuring 64 seats, including 16 at the bar and about 10 in the bourbon room, the restaurant’s design combines elements of an old Chicago speakeasy and a Kentucky bourbon rack house with wood floors, a wine wall and what Richards calls bourbon street. “I’m a bourbon guy,” said Richards. At the back of the restaurant, the bourbon room, featuring a table with seats and a couch, will be a laid-back hang-out spot.
